Lady GaGa has today been tipped by the Daily Mail as the Next Big Thing.
Fusing the striking chameleonic visual identity of her idol David Bowie with a pop-art punk attitude and a sprinkling of Gwen Stefani’s chart-straddling magic dust, Lady GaGa wants to pull you into her world. And you may not have a say in the matter.
The Mail’s music critic Adrian Thrills says: “With her bleached blonde hair, hot pants and a stage show that involves sequins, disco lights and mirror balls, GaGa, 22, certainly has the looks and style. But she is also her own woman and, in reality, lies closer to a young Madonna or Cyndi Lauper.
“She has written songs for the Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears and New Kids On The Block, and is now set to take centre stage herself.”
The Daily Mail article is just one of many early tips for Lady GaGa, whose debut album The Fame was released via Interscope in the US this week, and is already flying high in the iTunes top 5.
Other early fans include Popjustice, Metro, The London Paper, Metro, Daily Star, Attitude and Grazia.
Lady GaGa’s debut single, Just Dance, is released in the UK digitally on 29 December 2008. Physical formats follow on 12 January 2009, and her debut album, The Fame, is released 26 January 2009.
